Non-Standard Tax Periods (NSTP) Lost – IT issues at HMRC

15.12.2022

Information has reached us of a possible issue for a taxpayer with Non-standard VAT periods – perhaps the VAT returns end on the last Friday of the month, for example, as opposed to being calendar month ends. It has arisen, we believe, where HMRC have ‘migrated’ a tax payers online account, as a part of HMRC’s streamlining of departmental IT systems, from their older IT platforms to their Enterprise Tax Management Platform (‘EMTP’).

Several taxpayers have reported that they have lost their agreed NSTPs when the migration was done, and HMRC cannot rectify this for a number of weeks. It also raises the prospects that taxpayers have missed the change and have applied the wrong period end dates already.

The action point is for anyone with NSTPs to check their online account as soon as possible to ensure no incorrect VAT declarations have been submitted.

If that has arisen and you, or your clients, need help to rectify the position then do get in touch at emailus@centurionvat.com
