Get VAT Ready for Brexit – latest Northern Ireland news

09.11.2020

Centurion’s series of online VAT updates continued this week and no sooner had one session finished then further news, on practical VAT issues that businesses will need to address, appeared on the newswires from HMRC. Just goes to show how important it is to maintain regular access to news as the Brexit countdown continues.

This recent update relates to issues that will affect trade in and through Northern Ireland and the Brief is here The issues to note include the point around access to Triangulation – a simplification for goods that move between three EU based members states – but there are some important VAT treatment points on the movement of own goods from a mainland UK business to Northern Ireland as well as some points on movements of goods from mainland UK to Northern Ireland that may happen within a VAT group.

These are the sort of updates that we will be discussing in our next Get VAT Ready for Brexit session which we are running on Monday 30th November 10am. However if you need a VAT specialist to provide VAT help before then – as the clock is ticking down then do get in contact at emailus@centurionvat.com .

The Brief does state that there will be no change to a Northern Ireland VAT number but we are aware that the EU Commission has been suggesting that a XI prefix rather than a GB prefix will be required – again another point to clarify as we move forward on this.
