CDS for import and export declarations and C79 import VAT certificates

02.08.2022

Following up on the letter that HMRC sent out to known exporters and importers in June and previous postings by Centurion, we want to remind all our clients that the CHIEF system used by HMRC for declarations is winding down and instead all declarations will be processed using the Customs Declaration Service (CDS). If you make your own declarations or use an agent, in order to avoid problems, please ensure that you are on track to use the CDS system for all imports after 30 September 2022.

If you are a business that continues to physically pay VAT at importation to the UK you will need to access CDS to download your C79 monthly import VAT certificates as they will no longer be sent by post each month.  Currently, if your imports are made using CHIEF and CDS, remember that you need to be looking out for two C79 certificates each month – one will be postal and the other online, in CDS.

If you need any VAT help or advice on your imports and exports please do get in touch with your usual Centurion contact or by email at emailus@centurionvat.com
