Brexit Update – EORI Numbers

08.05.2019

An Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number is required to be held by all importers wishing to import goods into the UK from outside the EU. Subject to the outcome of an agreed Brexit deal, this is likely to become an obligation for many businesses that have not required it previously.

We understand that the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) has asked HMRC to consider issuing EORI numbers automatically to any business who is VAT registered in the UK to save on them each having to apply for one. The latest news on this is that HMRC has considered the idea but will not be moving forward with it at the moment, but the BCC will keep pressing the point.
