Boutique VAT consultancy branches into training

29.06.2011

A Newport-based boutique VAT consultancy has diversified its service offering to deliver VAT training to businesses.

Following a comment in their quarterly e-newsletter, Centurion VAT Specialists found that there was great demand amongst their clients and prospective customers for short, informative training courses, giving staff a better understanding of VAT.

The first course, in May, was such a success that the company is now planning a series of training events in Newport and Bristol.

Director, Liz Maher, said, “When we suggested that businesses get in touch if they thought VAT training maybe valuable, we were overwhelmed by the response.

“Our first course focused on VAT advice for Housing Associations and was a great success. In fact it has been picked up by Community Housing Cymru (CHC) and has been added to their sector training programme this year.”

The course looked at the basic principles of VAT in the Housing Association sector to help finance teams manage VAT through their sales and purchase systems, as well as current issues such as Feed in Tariff Issues and how VAT issues arise when working in partnership with third parties.

Liz added: “Since we tailor make our courses to the client’s needs there is no limit to the topics we can offer. We are already developing courses for other clients, one for the charity sector and another to address the changes a manufacturing business dealing with trade across Europe is facing.

“These clients have large numbers of staff to train, so we have arranged for the courses to be delivered on site. This means that staff can receive expert VAT training without facing disruption and extra travel costs, especially as most courses of this nature are run in London.”

Centurion VAT Specialists is a boutique consultancy with expertise in various sectors including education, local authorities, government departments, charities and manufacturing.

Located in Langstone Business Park, Centurion VAT Specialists provides expert VAT advice and VAT resources to all sectors within corporate, public sector and charitable bodies. It was originally set up by the University of Wales, Newport in order to help the higher education sector handle the complexities of VAT at a fraction of the cost of the international accounting firms.

In 2007 it became an owner managed consultancy and has since expanded its VAT service offering across the public and corporate sector in Wales, currently servicing around 200 clients across South Wales and the South West of England.
